From March 19th to August 22nd, 2021, the façade of Palazzo Strozzi will change its “face” through the site-specific installation by JR, one of the best known contemporary artists in the world. The title is particularly emblematic: La Ferita (The wound). Once again Palazzo Strozzi chooses an artwork visible to all, able to overcome the closures and restrictions on enjoying art imposed by the pandemic, inviting us to find a direct relationship with art and urging us to rethink the concepts of sharing, participation , creativity. Ancient and contemporary find themselves in dialogue again: the imposing and historic Palazzo, one of the symbols of the Florentine Renaissance, dialogues with JR, the young French artist and photographer who has transformed the "walls of the whole world into the largest art gallery imaginable at his disposal ". The Parisian artist has made the technique of photographic collage his stylistic code: from the favelas of Rio de Janeiro to Israel, the "photograffeur", as the artist likes to call himself, has taken many photographs of ordinary people, printed in maxi format and glued around the world. His are unsettling and provocative shots that want to shake consciences, his art wants to give voice to people's thoughts and interprets current issues.
