Galleria dell'Accademia

The Gallery owes its popularity to the presence of several sculptures by Michelangelo: the Prisoners, the St. Matthew and especially the famous David, brought here in 1873, for which the spectacular gallery was built. In the adjacent rooms, obtained from two ancient monasteries, accommodate important artworks from the Accademia del Disegno, the Accademia di Belle Arti and from the closed convents. There are also the plaster casts of Lorenzo Bartolini and Luigi Pampaloni, the collection of Russian icons and the collection of musical instruments of the Medici and Lorena courts.
