The Villa Bellosguardo that houses the Enrico Caruso Museum is named “bellosguardo” or great view for its spectacular location on the hills of Lastra a Signa. In 1585, the learned Abbot Alessandro Pucci commissioned G.A. Dosio to transform the property, enhancing it with a fine park. In 1906 the Villa passed to the famous tenor Enrico Caruso and in 1995 it was bought by the municipality of Lastra a Signa. The Enrico Caruso Museum was created thanks to the donation of a valuable collection from the Associazione Centro Studi Carusiani in Milan, which allows visitors to enjoy a direct encounter with the great tenor and to learn his history. The Museum is inspired by the idea of creating a direct encounter with the artist. The history of the artist can be discovered by walking through the rooms of his house, through traditional panels and multimedia interactive technologies, harmonised within the museum path. Intentionally, every technological device is concealed from the visitor, who can therefore focus on the displayed objects and spacious layout of the rooms. The scope is to create an emotional bridge between the guest and the great Caruso, favouring an exchange based on fruitive and emotional interaction methods.
So pictures, scores, stage costumes, sculptures, accompanied by his voice, tell Caruso as man, as father, as artist.
